Maison Horta (page 3 of 4)

Interior view of the main stair in the Art Nouveau style Horta house. Photo from a 1980's Horta Museum postcard.

Main Stair Looking Downward
Victor Horta House in Brussels, Belgium

This gracious, flowing stair provides the primary means of circulation in Baron Victor Horta's tall,  narrow town house, connecting most of the major spaces.  Another stair behind an adjacent wall functions as the home's service stair.  The mirrored door partially visible at the top right connects to the waiting room outside Horta's personal office in his studio building next door.  Horta designed and built the house and office / studio from 1893-97.  Both are now part of the incredible Horta Museum.  From an early 1980's Musee Horta postcard.
